For all of the OnBase users and fans out there, CommunityLIVE is basically our Super Bowl. People travel from all over the country to spend a full week learning about new features, getting inspired by amazing keynote speeches and mingling with others in their same roles.
With such a large event, we know that not everyone will be able to go. Which is why we decided to share some of our favorite takeaways from CommunityLIVE 2017.
Favorite Quote:
This quote was being tweeted and shared left and right moments after it was said! Something about the honesty and truth behind it really resonated with people who spend days, weeks, months and even years innovating and searching for the next big improvement.
Get scrappy, the true grit of innovation – Josh Linkner
This quote came with the opening keynote by Josh Linkner, a tech entrepreneur, NYT bestselling author and public speaker. In his 5 Obsessions of Innovators, Number 4, “get scrappy,” calls to all of the times you’re left with a whole lot of nothing or a big old mess and you have to pull strings where there don’t seem to be any hanging, to get the job done. Innovators are the ones who can get scrappy, figure it out, dig into the mud, and create the next big thing. As Josh ended his keynote he left us with this, “if your organization isn’t innovating, it’s time to start right now.”
Favorite Session:
Honestly, in a full week of sessions, it is impossible to choose just one. So instead, we chose two!
Mission to Mars with Brenda Kirk: In this session, Brenda gave everyone a little insight into the future and goals of OnBase at Hyland. “We have been evolving and innovating since the day we began,” Kirk said, “But the need for innovation is unending.”
As she put it, they conquered their first goal of landing on the moon and now they’re looking to reach mars. This goal is mainly encompassed by a continued and growing investment in research and design. By bringing in more people, investing in uncompromised quality software, continuing to focus on robust security and bringing even more sophisticated data capture technology to their customers, they plan to become the leader in what Gartner is defining as content services (previously ECM).
Got Workflow? With Tom Grucza: This session covered the basics of workflow and creating your own workflow solutions without any custom coding in OnBase. One of the reasons this session resonated with so many people is because everyone walked away with their own ideas for a solution that would work with their organization. The session which incorporated free examples, ideas and products that could work for everyone, helped those who still haven’t been able to dive into workflow, think through the process, and set a goal to pursue when they get back to the office.
Favorite Takeaway:
Everyone is in the same boat as you. One of our customers pointed out that it was awesome to see that everyone has the same struggles but also successes. At CommLIVE they have a specific space set aside for the OnBase community to meet and connect. Everyone shared stories and experiences with a group of people guaranteed to understand exactly what they were talking about. For those in the ECM world, this is a dream come true and a true innovation sparker.
Favorite Event:
I think it’s safe to say that for all us DataBankers, our favorite event was Eat Like Emeril Lagasse at Lagasse Stadium which we hosted for our customers, friends and coworkers. After a long few days bouncing around to different sessions, it was great to sit back and recap everything over great food! Sometimes, the best ideas come from the moments you let your guard down. We saw everyone sharing ideas, talking about software upgrades and having a blast while reliving the day and planning for the week they get back.
