KENT COUNTY

Kent County , located in western Michigan , is the fourth largest population center in the state. Covering 864 square miles, the County is home to approximately 600,000 people. The county seat, Grand Rapids , has a population of 195,000 and is 150 miles west of Detroit , 180 miles northeast of Chicago , and 30 miles from Lake Michigan . With a healthy economy, low taxes, affordable housing, and Midwestern hospitality, Kent County offers the best in both business and family not only in its centralized location but in its overall environment and friendly atmosphere. According to the 2000 Census, Kent County has grown by 14.7 percent over the prior 10 years. The growth for the State of Michigan over the same period was 6.9 percent .

THE CHALLENGE

 During the past decade, the record low mortgage interest rates have produced an unprecedented volume of deed recordings. An AmCAD Imaging System was installed to make the recording process more efficient. After the system was installed, it was clear that even greater efficiency could be gained by converting all the Deeds and Mortgages recorded since 1970 into digital images. This would enable them to be imported into the AmCAD system and make them accessible via PCs on their internal network and the public website. “We have a unique opportunity to do this project one time and we want a vendor who can do it right” said Mary Hollinrake, Kent County Clerk/Register. ‘We selected DataBank (formerly known as ImageMax) because they provided the highest quality images and had successfully handled other county projects just like ours.’ commented Jerry Czaja – Chief Deputy Register of Deeds.
